From the earliest settlements we have Spanish silver tableware, we have portraits of the captains that sailed the settlers to the colonies, we have items that were traded. All of these things help us to study our history. We will be using fine art and the crafts used to help us study how the county developed and evolved.
Each week we will work with our timeline, beginning with the early 1600’s and hopefully we will manage to get to current events and contemporary artists by June!
We will be using Howard Zinn’s book A People’s History of the United States and a we will be taking some field trips to some of the museums that will enhance our study art history/US history class.

Students will work with various artistic mediums and techniques to create their own artwork through observation and personal expression. We will discuss materials and lessons necessary to create individual curriculums. If students decide to work on a similar project or in the same mediums the class will accommodate them. Projects might include drawing/painting/collage/calligraphy/design/printing, but all will be decided in September!
